Chapter 87 The Hot Spring Bath of the Asian Forest Tortoise

Actually, Charcoal and Mizzle showing affection for each other was quite a sight, but the simple cage environment didn\'t show its appeal, otherwise, it might have changed Yingying\'s bad impression of wolves.

Liu Xueqing, deep in thought, said to Yingying\'s father, "The environment really makes a difference, huh. Everything up front seemed so fun, you could watch an animal for a long time. I feel that if it weren\'t for the zoo director accompanying us, maybe we would have just glanced at the tiger exhibit and walked away."

Yingying\'s father replied, "I quite liked their tigers. I saw them constructing exhibits along the way, which looked quite spacious. I specifically asked one of their animal keepers, and they said they are building both the tiger and wolf exhibits, and the tiger exhibit will open next week!"

Liu Xueqing covered her mouth with a smile, "That\'s wonderful, there\'ll be no worries about where to take Yingying out to play from now on! It\'s just a pity that there are too few animals, it would be great if they could bring in more."

In the end, Yingying fed a small piece of carrot to an alpaca, and after the family finished their visit, they returned home with a collection of wonderful photos and happiness.

Fang Ye had a great day too! .net

[Attack of the Zoo 3]requires visitors to be amazed by the animals, and now the progress has reached 7000/30000.

The large turnout over the weekend certainly helped, but what was more important was the performance of the animals, which amazed visitors - the peafowl displaying their feathers, the red pandas reaching for apples, the macaques\' agile climbing and jumping, and giving Jiaojiao a massage all left the visitors in awe!

At this rate, the donation box would soon be in hand.

Once the weekend was over, there wasn\'t as much bustle, and it quieted down considerably.

This was the perfect opportunity to take some time out to do something else.

Fang Ye first went to check on Little Black, the Asian forest tortoise, and after feeding it a deworming pill, it had expelled the internal parasites over the past few days, looking a bit listless, but that was actually a good sign! After some rest, it would recover and become healthier and more spirited than before.

Now, every day he would prepare a bath for it with a layer of warm water, move the bath under the sun for it to soak and sunbathe, and when it had its fill, he would move the bath back.

Checking the green leaf coins, the arrival of the macaw and the Asian forest tortoise added +50,000 green leaf coins, the first two tasks of the Attack series added +2,000, and the red panda exhibit\'s enrichment task added +1,000, totaling 53,000.

Saving for the tropical bird pavilion needed much more, so a decision was made to first build an exhibit for Tortoise.

The location was the first consideration.

In the current zoo plan, at the entrance is a forest elf theme area that includes the tropical rainforest aviary, red panda exhibit, red fox, and macaques, while the macaque can lead to a Primate Paradise theme.

The midsection is the Predator Gallery, which includes the tiger and wolf exhibits, and the tiger exhibit could lead to a big cat animal theme.

The rear section, which currently houses the yet-to-be-moved wolf enclosure and a little petting zoo at the tail end, is left open as a reserve for new animals.

Since the Asian forest tortoise has arrived, later on, they could introduce more reptiles like crocodiles, lizards, and snakes to form a reptile-themed exhibition area!

In the future, when the zoo expands, a single loop will not be enough, they will need to add a big loop around a small loop, creating different themes like African, Polar, Marine…

Kids are the ones who do multiple-choice questions, as an adult, I want it all!

Make it a place where visitors won\'t even think of leaving unless they\'ve stayed for ten days and nights.

Fang Ye burst into uncontrollable laughter at the thought, startled by his own laughter, he almost forgot he was designing an exhibit for Tortoise!

The area for the exhibit doesn\'t need to be too large, three to four hundred square meters will suffice, with Tortoise slowly crawling around, taking its time to reach the other end.

Firstly, the terrain outside can\'t be completely flat, it has to be uneven with certain depressions and mounds, mimicking Tortoise\'s natural habitat more closely. The elevation doesn\'t have to be too significant, similar to the gentle rise of speed bumps on the road.

The soil should be loose, with a thick layer of soft, dry leaves on top, making it more comfortable for Tortoise to crawl over.

For reptiles, the three most important elements are temperature, light, and humidity!

There must be a gradient in temperature. Take the desert iguana, which lives in arid deserts, for example, although it can tolerate high temperatures, with a maximum threshold of 47 degrees, or even 49 degrees, if it\'s scorched to the limit by high temperatures all day, it will definitely die!

Constant low temperatures don\'t work either, as reptiles can\'t generate their own heat and need to absorb heat from the sun to raise their body temperature to maintain their activity; otherwise, they become lethargic and lack vitality.

Placed in a display case, the average temperature might be around 28-32 degrees, with a heating spot, so if it needs heat, it can go near the high-temperature area of over 40 degrees.

If it feels too hot, it can go to the cooler area with a temperature of 20 degrees, and if it feels comfortable around 30 degrees, it can stay in the moderate temperature area, providing different temperature zones for it to choose from according to its physiological needs.

To create a temperature gradient for the Asian forest tortoise\'s exhibit is quite simple.

First, there is the area with direct sunlight, with no trees to provide shade. To allow Tortoise to fully enjoy basking in the sun, a couple of flat rocks slightly sloping above the surface could be placed.

Then, plant some tropical trees like palms and banana plants, with ferns and bamboo-like shrubs underneath, providing shade while enriching the environment. Naturally, it\'s cooler under the shade of these trees.

Don\'t plant too many trees, just a few scattered around enough to cover a small part of the exhibit with shade. Otherwise, Tortoise won\'t get enough sunlight, and the dense foliage will block the visitors\' view, preventing them from easily admiring Tortoise\'s figure.

Light doesn\'t only bring warmth; the ultraviolet rays are also very important. Many vertebrates synthesize vitamin D as a catalyst by absorbing ultraviolet light through their skin. Even with enough calcium in their diet, they won\'t be able to absorb it without vitamin D. Diurnal reptiles must sunbathe or be exposed to UVB light, or they will develop metabolic bone disease.

The Asian forest tortoise prefers a warm, moist environment! A water feature is essential—in the center of the exhibit, place a natural-looking, irregularly shaped pond of about seventy square meters. The edges and bottom should be lined with stones for easier cleaning and water changing, which conceal human traces when the water is drained. Add a few large rocks around the edges for extra interest.

They can\'t be fully submerged; an ideal water depth would be about one-third the height of Tortoise\'s shell. Hence, the pond is shallow, allowing its limbs and undercarriage to be just submerged when it enters, with its shell and head sticking out. A warm bath can stimulate the tortoise to defecate, greatly reducing the chance of urinary stones.

There should be a heating pad under the pond, which is heated to a suitable temperature before Tortoise bathes whenever new water is added because bathing in cold water can cause sickness. There\'s no need to heat in the hot summer weather, or it would turn into turtle soup. During cooler weather when temperatures drop, it should be kept heated.

Half of the pond is directly under the sun, while the other half is shaded by a few palm trees, kind of like setting up a sun umbrella next to a hot springs bath. Tortoise would surely enjoy soaking in it.

Near the pond, the sandy soil should be free of leaves, which should mainly cover the sunlit outer perimeter for easy cleaning.

This way, a temperature gradient is established in the exhibit: the sunlit leaf-covered sand, beside the water and in the pond, and shaded sand, beside the water and in the pond—Tortoise can go wherever it feels comfortable.

A simple stone and wooden fence around the perimeter is sufficient, as the habitat within the exhibit is far more comfortable than the outside, and with Tortoise moving so slowly, it\'s unlikely to be interested in climbing out even without barriers. The main function of the fence is to prevent visitors from casually entering.

Construction only needs 15,000 green leaf coins—cheap! There\'s nothing too complicated involved, so it should be built pretty quickly. With the system construction crew\'s speed, it can be done in just a week or two.
