Chapter 107 - 107: Compromise

The situation of the three guilds’ united army could only be described as dismal.

“Man, those three big bosses are fierce. They slash down one after another and we can barely keep up with the healing,” Zhao Lei said while munchingly loudly on his pork leg, his mouth greasy with oil.

“Those three guilds are finished,” the Fruit Knight said, sipping a bit of hot apple cider.

“It’s like wolves among the sheep. They just launched a big campaign with the official platform, and now it’s a huge public embarrassment, ” Guardian Angel said, with a bit of schadenfreude.

“Losing face is one thing. After all, the power of the guards is undeniable. With thousands of werewolves led by their boss in the second wave, it wouldn’t be shameful to lose,” Li Yao casually remarked as he sipped his wine, seemingly expecting this outcome from the beginning.

“Does the trio of guilds stand a chance?” asked Zhao Lei.

“It’s complicated, ” Li Yao shook his head. The ordinary way would be to employ a sufficient number of NPC armies. Otherwise, the three guilds would be helpless, given that only three bosses have appeared so far.

There must be other bosses inside. Current players can’t possibly take on so many bosses – a thousand players battling one boss would be terrifying.

“Hold on, it seems like there are hidden meanings in your words,” Guardian Angel suddenly said.

“I’m just speaking on the surface,” Zhao Lei was confused.

“Get lost, you brute. You can’t hide what you’re thinking,” Guardian Angel said, “I’m talking about Prairie Fire.”

“Angel, you need to understand that what we see as just another guild quest is nothing special, but for the officials and certain people, it has a different significance,” Li Yao said nonchalantly while swirling his wine glass.

“You mean… I see,” Guardian Angel mused, “They were wiped out too quickly. It was a massacre. Quite spectacular.”

“Anything involving politics gets complicated,” Fruit Knight sighed for no apparent reason.

“What the hell are you guys talking about?” Zhao Lei scratched his head.

“Just stay out of it. Your family is not short of money, just quietly be a rich bumpkin,” Li Yao joked.

“Watts, we’re finished as friends,” Zhao Lei flung his pork bone towards Li Yao, the bone just narrowly missing Li Yao’s head.

Compared to the jovial atmosphere on this side, the mood on the other end was sombre.

“Nothing’s working, what are we supposed to do now?” the guild leader of Reaper’s Wing, Death Scythe, said irritably. “Our guys on the other side are managing to hold them back for now, but they can’t keep it up for long.”

“It appears that Prairie Fire has attracted some elites. We could kite some of them over here,” suggested Dark Grape, frowning.

“I’m afraid we can’t. As you can see, we tried to probe again just now, but upon the werewolves’ appearance, they sprang into action with thousands of them, with bosses involved. The elites probably wouldn’t hold out for long,” said Jackson, sighing.

“We’ll have to turn to him then. As far as I know, he’s also keen on taking down the outpost and he seems to have a surefire plan. He must have some backup,” Dark Grape said, his mouth twitching at the sight of Li Yao’s camp still ablaze with bonfire.

They suffered heavy losses this time, almost the entire guild was degraded by a level.

They watched the live stream for a bit. There were all kinds of accusations and ridicules, with no one taking their side. The facial expressions of the higher-ups could be easily imagined without having to see them.

Who knows how much they hated them now. The members of the trio of guilds regretted it now. Why did they have to be so high-profile? They were well aware of the formidable creatures within the Ancient Gods, and they had taken the matter seriously.

They had deployed all their elite forces, and were full of confidence, but in the end, they had failed. If they couldn’t handle the higher-ups, they wouldn’t even be able to take off their shoes in the future.

On the other side, Zhao Lei pointed out, “They are heading this way.” “It seems they have run out of options,” Fruit Knight smirked.

“Brother, you seem quite relaxed.” Dark Grape squeezed out a smile and greeted Li Yao.

“Not bad, just had a meal, and watched a show.”

Li Yao indifferently responded as he cleaned his hands with clear water.

Dark Grape knew about his personality and didn’t mind, but the other two guild leaders were brimming with anger. They had heard that Li Yao was not easy to get along with, but didn’t expect him to be so prickly.

“We made a fool of ourselves in front of you,” Undeterred, Dark Grape signaled the other two guild leaders and continued, “These two are the guild leaders of Six-Dimensional Space and Reaper’s Wing.”

“I won’t venture that far. Just tell me what the matter is.” Li Yao remained indifferent. It’s not that he was arrogant, but he really didn’t want to get too involved with the guilds in the Light Faction. They would surely encounter each other in future military quests or battlefields. Being too familiar might make it difficult to strike when needed.

“Brother, you want to complete the outpost mission too, right? All of our three guilds failed, as you saw. Now, it’s up to you,” Dark Grape said.

“Well, my mission is not urgent. You guys are more significant, with more people. You should try more. I’ll just watch and won’t disrupt anything,” Li Yao responded as if he hadn’t caught Dark Grape’s hint.

“Umm, come on. We have given up. We will just watch you do the mission and ensure we won’t disrupt anything,” Dark Grape spoke, frustrated by how sharp Li Yao was. He realized that Li Yao must have known about the insider information, and decided not to beat around the bush any longer.

“Can I trust you guys? We don’t know each other that well. I do have a way to take down the outpost, but the problem is, I don’t really trust you guys. If I take down the outpost, and there are only a few of us left, you guys with thousands of members could easily launch a siege on us.”

“We said we gave up on the mission, and we did. You don’t believe us?” Death Scythe coldly said.

“Who the hell do you think you are? I don’t have to believe you,” Zhao Lei retorted, his temper flaring upon seeing Jackson’s cold demeanor while asking for their help.

“You…”

Dark Grape held back the seething Death Scythe and said, “We can promise in front of all the streaming viewers. and owe you a favor. As long as you take down the outpost today, we will certainly not interfere. Of course, we will announce that you are our collaborator, and hope you can understand.”

“Now that sounds more like you’re asking for a favor. I can accept that. Do as you said in front of the tens of thousands of viewers. Once done, I will immediately get going.”

Li Yao was indifferent. He was planning to take down the outpost anyway. By getting the favor of these three major guilds for nothing, he was getting the better end of the deal. Sometimes, such a favor could come in handy. This was a trade devoid of any personal feelings.

“Thank you, brother.”

Dark Grape let out a sigh of relief. Although the mission was a failure, as long as the outpost was taken down, it would be considered a successful collaboration.

The guild leaders of other districts casted a cold glance at Li Yao, then turned around and left.

“What’s the big deal if we let him do it? I don’t believe he can take down the outpost,” Jackson spat out as they walked away.

“Let’s boost him up a bit for now. If he fails to take down the outpost…” Death Scythe’s eyes flashed coldly.

“Is it really necessary to do that?” Dark Grape was speechless, surprised by the narrow-mindedness of the two guild leaders.

“What’s wrong with it? Praising him can’t be wrong, right, dear Grape?” Death Scythe queried.

Dark Grape facepalmed…
