Chapter 693 Creatures of Darkness and Terror.

His gaze travelled across all their faces, searching for a discrepancy, but he found none. They all seemed genuinely as confused as he was.

Steve frowned, "I am sure of it. However, it you say you were attacked, and you wholeheartedly believe it, then we cannot dismiss it as well."

His frown turned a bit ugly,

"That means either you, or all of us, have become the target of a mental spell, or enchantment."

The radiance flickered.

Cain grimaced, "An enchantment?"

Steve nodded, then he asked,

"Think back to it, Cain. How real did the attacks feel?"

Cain frowned, "Very really, not at all different from what one would expect of an indiscriminate attack."

Steve nodded, and his eyes narrowed,

"Then, was there any intent behind these attacks?"

Cain paused. His mind spun as he thought about it.

Truly, the spikes were aimed at him and attacked him from al directions. However, they didn\'t seem lethal, and none of them seemed to have been particularly targeted at his vitals.

Therefore...

\'No, wait. That doesn\'t make any sense...\'

He frowned then looked down at Steve,

"It doesn\'t matter, does it? Maybe the beast that attackeed me can conceal its intent so as not to be spotted."

Steve shook his head,

"It is rather difficult for intent to be concealed that way. Besides, where do you think the attacks came from? The walls? Could there be creatures hidden away in the crevices of the walls? I highly doubt that."

Cain reasoned. Steve\'s words did indeed make sense.

However, for some reason, they just didn\'t seem to sit right with him.

And there was something off about his current situation. Something dark and unsettling that he couldn\'t quite put his finger on.

However, it made him feel constant fear, like he was looking into the eyes of a horror inducing being.

Cain looked around him.

Ignis patted his shoulder,

"Cain, don\'t think about it too much. If it was an illusion caused by something in here then..."

Cain paused.

Then he looked around him.

He took a deep breath in.

"You son of a bitch..."

His eyes glowed in the darkness.

He had suspected something to be wrong. Little did he know that he was already sucked so deep in.

What was the most frightening, was that he didn\'t even notice when he had been caught.

He dismissed {Gihenai} and summoned his guns.

Without even thinking twice, he began firing randomly.

His bullets shot straight through Steve and Ignis\' heads and they collapsed to the ground, gaping holes in their skulls.

However, the rest of his crew didn\'t even seem to notice. Instead, the looks of concern directly at him didn\'t change one bit.

He sneered, "Get the hell out of my head!"

His bullets pierced through the heads of the rest and they all fell to the ground as well.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

The light that came from Susan and Lukas dimmed away and collapsed completely, leaving him in pitch darkness.

His mind connected with the dark diver and the Eldritch being began to swinm through the darkness, carrying his senses along and expanding them beyond what the darkness could allow, until eventually...

Cain opened his eyes...

A second later, he collided with the coarse ground below.

The sound of water crashing down from overhead filled Cain\'s senses.

He sensed a presence coming from above and he quickly rolled to the side.

Another crash followed and then another, until they had all gotten the chance to taste some dirty.

Springing up to his feet, Li spat out a litany of curses,

"Damn! Hell! Shit! That was terrifying!"

Steve brushed the dust off his clothes,

"How intriguing indeed..."

Others also seemed to have something to say,

Vincent turned to Steve, his face filled with apprehension,

"Do you know what that was?"

Steve shrugged, "I might as well presume that we all have just gone through either the same, or slightly different experiences, so I won\'t even bother asking."

He turned to Cain,

"What do you think?"

Cain grimaced, "The work of a mutant creature. A crafty one at that."

His eyes quickly scanned the environment, eventually settling in a single out of place object.

It resembled a rock, and could have been easily mistaken for one, had it not been for the absolutely beautiful spiral patterns surrounding its surface.

The moment he set his eyes on the spiral, his face paled.

For a moment, he felt as though his very soul has moved, jerked slightly in the direction of the rock with the spiral patterns.

"Scratch that. A scary one..." Cain said, his face pale. He pointed the muzzle of his gun at the rock and squeezed the trigger.

The bullet smashed through the rock, sending pieces of it flying.

Then it struck something else. Something softer...

A dark green liquid squirted out of the hole made in the rock, and an otherworldly, horror inducing screech came from the rock.

In the blink of an eye, several appendages popped out from somewhere beneath the rock, dragging it with lightning speed towards the stream where it quickly sank into the currents, before it disappeared from sight.

There was a moment of dreadful silence as everyone took a moment to try to comprehend what they had just seen.

Sue spoke, her voice trembling,

"That... What was that?"

Cain holstered his guns, them took a look around.

The underground area of the cove was a bit different.

The strange darkness that persisted was still present.

However, there was light from the glowing rocks, which Cain had now come to identify as some form of mana mutated algae. This light spread eeriely through the darkness, cutting through it like a sharp knife, but also accentuating its bleak dread.

Cain grimaced, "Looks like this place won\'t be as easy to clear out as I had hoped."
